When you think about curling sometimes it brings some enjoyment since it could be a sport that you love or a lovely curled hair that can be a work of art of a hair stylist. But when this word is put in the same sentence as the roof you know you’re in big trouble.
It could be just one shingle curling or a sea of them up in your roof when you notice them for the firt time as you sip your coffee in the morning. It’s like a school of fish blabbering in your roof, thus another nickname of curling: fish mouthing.
It is a pain to look at! It also makes your house look shabby and unkempt.
So what causes this roof misfit that homeowners and roof contractors so abhor?

This is usually caused by insufficient ventilation which leads to moist and heat being trapped in the attic or rooms just below the roof. The curling process is influenced by the shingle’s surface contraction and at the same moment its underneath receives passive heat from the inside of the house. The opposite temperatures of the cold outside (especially in the winter season) and the heat from indoors produce the curling action of the shingles.
If you notice at least a few of the shingles in your roof starting to curl up or resemble a fish mouth then it is time to contact a well experienced and certified roofing contractor in your area. Getting your roof fixed immediately will avoid further damage to your roof which will cost even more.
